Celebrating National Archaeology Week 2023
This week is National Archaeology Week—an opportunity to tell you more about our incredible, hard-working team of archaeologists.
Our archaeologists personify our values—they are genuinely curious about the past and persevere to discover, recover and reimagine history, heritage and culture.
They collaborate with clients and across disciplines, with communities and with First Nations Peoples through archaeology assessment, investigation and survey to inform new understandings of life in the past.
Our archaeologists in Sydney, Melbourne and Canberra have delivered some of Australia’s most important historical archaeology and Aboriginal archaeology projects. They have conducted archaeology projects in towns, cities and places—from major urban and commercial developments to some of our most important cultural places.
During National Archaeology Week our team are sharing some of the First Nations and historical artefacts that they have uncovered in the field on our website and on Instagram.
Senior Associate Sophie Jennings will be presenting a paper at this year’s Sydney Historical Archaeology Practitioners Workshop on Friday 26 May about the remains of an early nineteenth century timber cottage excavated at the Queens Wharf Reserve, Parramatta, as part of the Parramatta Light Rail (PLR) project.
