Hyde Park Reflection Pool

GML on the Winning Team for Hyde Park Pool of Reflection

Congratulations to Environmental Partnership and Turf Design, winners of the 2017 AILA NSW Landscape Architecture Awards Cultural Heritage category for the Hyde Park Pool of Reflection upgrade.

The jury stated that the project ‘reflects an understated and refined approach to heritage’.

GML Heritage is proud to have been part of the winning team.

GML provided heritage advice and navigated the approvals process for the upgrade, which included new finishes in and around the Pool and the removal and replacement of trees surrounding the Pool. The importance of these elements is further reflected in the jury citation, which stated ‘the upgrading of the quality of finishes to the precinct and replacement of declining formal tree planting add to the gravity of the landscape’.

Adam Hunter of Environmental Partnership led the team, and said of GML’s contribution:

‘The project would not have been so successful without the guidance of GML Heritage and the commitment to find forward looking solutions.’

Adam went on to say that one of the unique aspects of the collaboration that was appreciated was ‘the ability of the team to develop the project with design and heritage threads so intermeshed.’

The win continues GML’s association with Hyde Park. GML provided heritage advice as part of the masterplan in 2007 and since that time has contributed to various revitalisation projects delivering to that plan.

Congratulations to the team and best of the luck with the National Awards, which will be announced in October 2017!
