Boroondara Municipal Wide Gaps Study
Located in Melbourne’s east, the City of Boroondara has a rich and diverse history that includes layers of built and natural heritage in its historic homes, commercial buildings, parks and gardens, and monuments and civic infrastructure.
In 2016, Council sought to identify and protect this heritage through a proactive program that would see over 20,000 properties assessed for their heritage value, as part of a municipal wide heritage gap study. GML Heritage Victoria, in collaboration with Trethowan Architecture, has been undertaking this study since its inception.
Assessments have been undertaken suburb-by suburb, with our consultants conducting surveys of each street to ensure that the study contains the most exhaustive and conclusive results. Recognising the integral and much-loved differences that distinguish each suburb in Boroondara, the study considered a broad range of periods and types of heritage, including residential, commercial, community buildings and mid-twentieth-century built heritage.
As the study progresses through its final stages, members of the team have since appeared as Council’s expert witness at panel hearings to support the recommendations of the study.
