Therese McCarthy
Associate
Therese McCarthy is a heritage specialist with extensive experience in heritage management and conservation, assessments of heritage significance, and advising on heritage impacts.
She holds a Master of Cultural Heritage from Deakin University and a Bachelor of Arts with First Class Honours in History from the University of Adelaide.
Therese has worked on a diverse range of projects at sites of local to world heritage significance. She has coordinated Commonwealth, state and local government approvals for heritage places and provided expert advice to site managers on conservation activities and the development of heritage management plans.
Therese’s experience has allowed her to develop strong relationships with a range of stakeholders and clients. She has engaged with community groups and individuals on issues at high-profile heritage places of community importance. Therese has also undertaken significance assessments for the heritage listing of sites of national importance. Major projects she has worked on include renewal projects at the Australian War Memorial, the Sydney Opera House and Queen Victoria Market.
Prior to joining GML, Therese worked for the Commonwealth Department of Agriculture, Water and the Environment. She has expertise in interpreting and applying environmental law, and worked to advise the Australian Government on policy reform in response to the Independent Review of the Environment Protection and Biodiversity Conservation Act 1999.
