Celebrating the National Trust (NSW) Heritage Awards

On 15 May, GML joined industry peers in Sydney to celebrate outstanding achievements in natural, built, Aboriginal and cultural heritage at the 2026 National Trust (NSW) Heritage Awards.

We were delighted to see two projects our team contributed to receive Highly Commended recognition — the Chinatown Ceremonial Gates and the Woollahra Modern Buildings Studies.

The Chinatown Ceremonial Gates project for the City of Sydney involved heritage assessment, local heritage listing and major conservation works, delivered in collaboration with many partners, including GML, International Conservation Services and members of the Chinese community.

The Woollahra Modern Buildings Studies, prepared for Woollahra Council, identified and assessed gaps in heritage recognition for 20th-century Modern architecture across the LGA.

Congratulations to the City of Sydney and Woollahra Council on this well-deserved recognition.

GML was also pleased to sponsor this year’s Young Achiever Award, presented to Erica Wright for her work as the 2025 Vera Deacon History Intern through the University of Newcastle. Erica’s Treasures of Cintra House Project involved digitising a collection of World War I-era letters from the heritage-listed Cintra House in Maitland.

The ceremony featured keynote addresses from engineer Jillian Kilby, The Hon. Penny Sharpe, NSW Minister for Heritage, and Sally Barnes, Chair of the Heritage Council of NSW.

Congratulations to all winners and finalists, and thank you to the National Trust (NSW) for continuing to recognise the individuals, organisations and communities working to protect, celebrate and share our heritage.
