Dr Steve Brown
Special Adviser
Dr Steve Brown, GML Heritage Special Adviser, has over 35 years’ experience in heritage management, heritage conservation and archaeology in government, private practice and academic research.
Steve has undertaken fieldwork and research across Australia as well as World Heritage projects in Mongolia and the Republic of the Marshall Islands.
Steve is an experienced project manager, skilled in field survey, site recording, and archaeological excavation. He also has skills in historical research, oral testimony, archival research and report writing. He was the lead author of the successful Budj Bim Cultural Landscape World Heritage Nomination.
Steve is an active member of the International Council on Monuments and Sites (ICOMOS), International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN) World Commission on Protected Areas. He is the past president of the International Scientific Committee on Cultural Landscapes, which undertakes heritage projects at a global scale. Steve is also a lecturer at the University of Canberra and regularly presents at conferences.
