The Moss Vale Railway Station and yard group, located in the NSW Southern Highlands, is one of the state’s oldest railway stations, and is listed on the State Heritage Register for its cultural and historical significance.
As part of Transport for NSW’s Transport Access Program (TAP), major upgrade works were undertaken at the station to improve accessibility, amenity and the overall commuter experience.
Key works included the installation of three new lifts, an accessible ramp, a family accessible toilet, upgrades to existing rooms and services, a new Station Services Equipment Room (SSER), and improvements to Dalys Way.
GML Heritage was engaged by Architectus and Degnan to provide specialist heritage services that guided the design and construction process.
These services encompassed a Heritage Design Report (HDR), ongoing heritage advice during construction, a Heritage Interpretation Plan (HIP), and Photographic Archival Recording, to ensure works were sympathetic to the site’s values and conserved its State heritage significance.
The HIP, prepared in accordance with Section 60 approval conditions, established a clear framework for interpreting and celebrating Moss Vale Station’s history as part of the precinct’s renewal and incorporates installations, public art and historical signage.
The completed project has delivered a safer, more accessible and functional station that meets the needs of the community—while safeguarding and showcasing the site’s significance.
