As part of the upcoming Australian Heritage Festival, two of GML’s leaders are taking part in events exploring mid-century heritage.
Modernism: a talk on Modernist Architecture in Woollahra
In Sydney, GML’s Head of Heritage Places, Rebecca Hawcroft, will explore the influence of Modernism in the development of the local Woollahra area.
Based on a major study of Modern buildings undertaken by GML for Woollahra Council, Rebecca will explore the influence of Modernism in the development of the local area – from the advent of high density living on the harbour, to the artists’ hub of Paddington in the 1960s – and the impact of key architects.

Mid-Century Matters: Conservation in Context
In Melbourne, GML’s Head of Victoria, Edwina Jans, will join a thought-provoking panel discussion on mid-century heritage conservation hosted by the Robin Boyd Foundation at Walsh Street House.
With a focus on the ongoing Tower Hill conservation project as a departure point, this event will explore the complexities of preserving significant mid-century sites, highlighting case studies with distinct typologies, site conditions and heritage challenges. Convened by Edwina, speakers will include Tina Tam (Lovell Chen) on Tower Hill, Sarah Bryant (Bryant Alsop) on Yarra House and Peter Mallat (Six Degrees) on Stop 1 University of Melbourne.
