Belmore Park Renewal

The City of Sydney is currently seeking community feedback on the renewal of Belmore Park—an important green space in the city and a key connection to Central Station.

Belmore Park has long been a place for political demonstrations, cultural gatherings and community life. It also holds enduring cultural significance for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people as a place of connection, activism and cultural practice.

GML supported the City by undertaking a targeted heritage review and advice on the development of the new concept design. We previously prepared the park’s Heritage Study in 2012.

The proposed upgrades aim to improve the park’s public presentation and revitalise spaces for recreation, accessibility and safety, while ensuring its significant heritage values are conserved.

Enhancing Belmore Park is a priority within the City’s Haymarket and Chinatown revitalisation strategy and public domain plan. GML has supported this broader work through the development of the Chinatown Thematic History, as well as heritage assessment and restoration of the Chinatown Gates.

This historic and vital green space near Central Station also happens to be the view from our office every day!

Have your say on the City of Sydney website – consultation is open until 6 April 2026.
