Centenary Trail is a five-day 140km walking trail in Canberra and the Australian Capital Territory.
Developed by the ACT Government as part of Canberra’s Centenary celebrations, the trail is a key outdoor recreation and tourist facility within Canberra. GML was engaged to plan and implement an interpretation program as part of the trail’s development.
GML worked collaboratively with Territory and Municipal Services to develop an understanding of the context and historical evolution of the trail’s mosaiac of landscapes. Following development of an Interpretation Strategy, GML prepared detailed content for the trail’s 14 trailhead signs, content for trail maps and a trail website.
The project required extensive community consultation and GML integrated and responded to a wide variety of community input. The completed trail successfully incorporates interpretation and enriches the user’s experience through history and stories.
