Hyde Park
City of Sydney
Sydney, NSW
Hyde Park is the oldest public park in Australia.
Hyde Park is a historic green space in the heart of the Sydney CBD. GML has a long relationship with the park, contributing heritage advice to implement the park’s masterplan and to the 2016 upgrade of the Pool of Reflection.
GML has extensive knowledge of the 16.2-hectare site, and has provided ongoing guidance and heritage management solutions to implement City of Sydney’s masterplan since 2007.
In 2016, GML provided heritage advice for the award-winning upgrade to the Hyde Park Pool of Reflection—including new finishes in and around the pool and the removal and replacement of trees.
Our team responded to the restrained aesthetic of the place and collaborated with the project team throughout the design process.
GML worked with Environmental Partnership and Turf Design on the upgrade, contributing to the forward-looking aesthetic, while also protecting the significance of the place and ensuring the improvements met heritage requirements.
The Hyde Park Pool of Reflection upgrade won the 2017 AILA NSW Landscape Architecture Award—Cultural Heritage.
